Like many across the Diocese of Raleigh, we awoke this morning to the terribly sad news of the death of Father Phil Tighe, following a long battle with cancer.

We’ve all been touched by Father Tighe in countless ways and Divine Mercy Radio was certainly no exception. From this station’s early days to only months ago, Fr. Tighe was an active supporter of our radio apostolate. For his wonderful encouragement, the volunteers of Catholic 540-AM are eternally grateful to Fr. Phil.

As with every soul he touched, Father Tighe’s willingness to always be present was constantly evident. Father Tighe served as a true shepherd of his people, walking with them so as to grow in God’s love as a parish family. He genuinely loved his parishioners as he shared their joys and sorrows and through it all radiated the joy of God’s life. He loved being a priest for God’s people and taught them to love the Eucharist.

As Father Tighe thought of us and loved us so deeply, let us do the same for him. A final request of Father Tighe’s was to pray for his soul - please continue to pray for the repose of Father Tighe’s soul.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and may perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen.

This year, Fr. Tighe celebrated his twentieth anniversary as a Catholic priest. We are pleased to share with you now his homily from that Mass at Holy Name of Jesus Cathedral in Raleigh, North Carolina.
